The Magic of a Donegal Christmas Book – Freckles The Elf Returns

The joy of reading a Christmas Book Photo Credit Joanne Gallinagh Photography

Evelyn Mc Marketing loves Christmas and even though I spend every day in the world of digital media and technology I believe in the legacy of making memories , of taking time to really communicate with others and share what makes us different from the robots of tomorrow.

There is never a greater time than Christmas for storytelling and imagination and using creativity to bring your message into peoples lives.

As the author of a number of books  including Crafty Kids Guide To Donegal and Its Wild Atlantic Way     Wild Atlantic Way Mindfulness Colouring Book      Just For Fun Activity Book   my Christmas book Freckles The Elf Christmas Magic In Ireland is one of of my favourites.

The story is about a couple who leave Ireland for a better life during the recession and move to New York City.

Times are now improving back home, and they decide to return to Ireland with their young children.  Their little boy Shaun is concerned that Santa will not find him at his grandmothers on Christmas Eve and so he writes a letter to Santa to make sure that he knows the family are back home in Ireland. Through the magic of storytelling, we discover the joy of Christmas  how all the goodness, caring and sharing around the world will take everyone home to where they belong.

I have received many e mails from families, the Irish Diaspora, all over the world who have returned just like Shaun and his family or those who  plan to return in the future. I love to hear the stories of how their little ones believed that Santa’s #GPSChristmasheartbeat machine was tracking  every good deed that they had done and that he knew where to find them on Christmas Eve.

With my own family I have a tradition of reading a story on Christmas Eve and regardless of age we have been doing this for well over 20 years.  The traditions and memories that we make are the foundation for the generations of the future. The digital world is all consuming, social media, technology , mobile devices all demanding constant attention. Leaving little or no time for us to really communicate while  making life long memories.

Santa has joined the digital age in this book too and can now use his  #GPSChristmasheartbeat computer to track people all over the globe , knowing instantly all the kindness that they carry out every day and automatically updating them to his nice list.

So this Christmas take time to read a book with your family, turn off the phone take time to build new memories and tell stories about old ones.

Our mobile devices wont replace a laugh, a smile or a story. Making memories today is what will sustain us as human beings tomorrow.

Freckles The Elf Christmas Magic In Ireland is a beautiful modern day read including topics  such as emigration, refugees, united nations, Irish geography and culture all wrapped up in a magical Christmas story of loving and giving and celebrating Christmas wherever you are in the world.

I know I am probably a bit bias but I promise that you and your family will love this beautiful book, written, illustrated and published here in Donegal.

You can buy online here  or call into Crafty Kids Toy Shop Letterkenny or McElhinneys Ballybofey.

If you would like to write a book either as a personal project or as part of your business, get in touch . In 2019 we are launching  writeabookworkshop.com with local and online workshops to help you through the journey of getting your book on the shelf or your e book online.

Celebrating Donegal Love Story Wedding Memories

HOST A DONEGAL LOVE STORY IN YOUR VENUE…..

What is Donegal Love Story all about?

Donegal Love Story is a unique idea based on Evelyn’s own experience.

Having got married in The Central Hotel Donegal over 31 years ago I felt it would be a unique  idea to host an event where our wedding reception was held – relive the memories of another time . Display mementos and nostalgic items from wedding days of the the past not just for me but other brides and grooms who held their wedding reception in the hotel.

No event of its type had been held in the North West before and so the first Donegal Love Story event was held in The Central Hotel in June 2018 , 20  brides and grooms  with their families and friends returned for a night of nostalgia and celebrating the memories of the past.

Drinks reception on arrival and a buffet style dinner were served and dancing continued late into the night with the “bridal parties”.

An exhibition of wedding dresses, wedding albums and mementos from each couples special day were displayed and the atmosphere was truly  filled with romance and a night out for everyone to remember.

One of the grooms actually proposed again to his beautiful wife of many years.  Each couple got the opportunity to say a few words and talk about their special wedding day memories and received a personalised certificate to commemorate the event..

There were a few couples on the night who were over 50 years married and their families expressed gratitude that they could relive the happy memories with their parents, some of these stories and memories they had never been aware of  in the past.

Why host a Donegal Love Story event in your hotel?

  • Opportunity to thank and celebrate with your previous brides and grooms the nostalgia and memories of their special day.
  • Add to the story of your hotel, share through media and create content for your social media accounts.
  • Through testimonials, video and reviews of the event your hotel will attract attention from romantics everywhere!
  • Highlight what you already offer –  create awareness of your wedding offerings throughout the years to the present day.
  • Promote your special wedding day package offerings.
  • Introduce future celebratory  events for  all your wedding couples, especially the brides and grooms of yesteryear.
  • Each Donegal Love Story can be unique to your venue- celebrate in your own unique style!

What can Evelyn Mc Marketing do to help?

As the creator of Donegal Love Story ,  a marketing consultant and a romantic at heart, Evelyn  will share her unique idea and  work with your team to highlight and host a unique event to your specific venue.

Offering marketing and event management support to you and your team, both on and off line , writing the story, liaising with your bridal couples and  working with you throughout the event in your venue.

That includes helping you to collate and display the nostalgic wedding mementos on the night , plus following through on PR and social media exposure after the event.

NOT JUST ABOUT WEDDINGS…..

Not just about weddings, Donegal Love Story will be developed through branding and web site / social media /blog etc in the future to promote love of person, place, experiences  and Donegal as a destination. Celebrating everyone’s unique love story with the county of Donegal and its people.

From the wedding perspective, each individual venue produces their own take on the Donegal Love Story theme with the backing and support of Evelyn Mc Marketing and the concept that has been created.

Inviting your prior brides, grooms and bridal parties to participate in  an anniversary love story celebration, unique to your venue .

Thanking those couples for choosing your hotel for their original celebrations and creating a new modern day story.

Reveal The Teen Take On Brexit With Teen Shopping Campaign.

Reveal The Teen launches Letterkenny Shopping Campaign for Teens.

Gerard McCormick , Magges Pharmacy,  Claire McGettigan, Joanna McMonagle and Evelyn Mc Glynn from Evelyn Mc Marketing launching The Reveal The Teen Shopping Campaign in Letterkenny Chamber of Commerce

Reveal The Teen Shopping Campaign June 21st 2017
Meet The Reveal The Teen team Evelyn Mc Glynn from Evelyn Mc Marketing, Shannon, Claire and Joanna work placement students who helped create the concept  and Toni Forrester Letterkenny Chamber of Commerce

While the border counties fear a looming hard border and what damage Brexit can do to their local retail and social communities , Reveal The Teen have spoken and  to help increase revenue spend in the county Evelyn Mc Marketing and Letterkenny Chamber of Commerce have joined forces with the teen brand to create a shopping campaign based on  what  teens want!

The Reveal The Teen  project came about when Evelyn Mc Marketing  and her work placement students created a survey to find out the retail and social trends of  Transition Year students in Donegal.

Read the report here:

The survey  was carried out by Loreto Convent Transition Year students Joanna McMonagle and Claire McGettigan, and  Shannon Thackrah, a third year Digital Marketing student at IT Sligo.

The main lesson in the report for retailers was the need to educate and encourage teens to shop local with student discounts for second level, not just third, and to promote easy returns policies. It was revealed that only 36% of teenagers return clothes that don’t suit and online returns are seen to be a ‘hassle’.

The Reveal The Teen Shopping Campaign organised by Letterkenny Chamber of commerce and Evelyn Mc Marketing  plan to encourage teens to support  local retailers, while the retailers will act on some of the suggestions offered through the survey .

Micheal Murphy Sports   Evolve Menswear     Magees Pharmacy are just a few of the local retailers responding to what local teens want by offering a range of discounts and special offers to all teens who shop with them in the June event.   The campaign begins on Wednesday June 21st until Saturday 24th

For students Claire, Joanna and Shannon, their work with their mentor Evelyn and Reveal The Teen  initiative has given them  the opportunity to bring the voice of their peers to the table while creating a brand, promoting on social media platforms, launching to the business community and now seeing their project used as a local business initiative.

Not a bad few months work experience!

Evolve Menswear launch Reveal The Teen Shopping Campaign in their store with Claire and Joanna from Reveal The Teen

“We set out to give teenagers a voice and we can’t believe how much we have learned and that the retail community has shown such great interest.” said Joanna and Claire ,while Shannon says  “The work experience and creating of a brand has been invaluable in my course work and for my future. Getting the opportunity to bring a brand from conception to the public has been of fantastic value to me personally”.

The Reveal The Teen shopping campaign takes place in Letterkenny in conjunction with Letterkenny Chamber of Commerce and evelynmcmarketing.com from June 21st  until  June 25th.

You can learn more about Reveal The Teen on Reveal The Teen face book page or contact Evelyn on evelynmcmarketing@gmail.com

#FrecklesTheElf Christmas Magic In Ireland

I have just wrote my fourth book this year, so I  suppose that makes me an author! (View them all here)Although to be honest I still find that hard to accept, the title of writer suits me better.  My most recent book is a children’s Christmas story called Freckles The Elf Christmas Magic In Ireland.

A magical  book sprinkled with opportunity to create memories and traditions with those close to you, while sharing the book during the festive season. Born from a family tradition in our own home of reading a book on Christmas Eve to the family, one that still continues even though the now grown up kids are in their twenties. they in turn will hopefully carry this tradition into their own families in their more mature years!

Meet Shaun and his  family who leave New York  just before Christmas for a new life in Ireland. His parents having left during the recession are returning “HOME” to  a new Ireland, a land of growth and possibility.

Discover, through this magical story how we are all part of a greater global family and how each kind and loving act will help Santa find us all on Christmas Eve through his #GPSChristmasHeartbeat computer.

But will it transmit from Ireland? Will Santa find Shaun on Christmas Eve? Can Freckles The Elf and her new Irish friend Mulligan succeed in their mission to deliver an unforgettable Holiday season for Shaun and his family in their new Irish home?

Join in the adventure and no matter where you are in the world experience the magic of Christmas in Ireland…

Minister of state for the Diaspora and International Development Joe McHugh T.D

delivered the foreword for the book and includes the message

“This story  beautifully sets out the situations and feelings that countless Irish abroad experience and it offers a charming story of understanding the importance of heritage and connectedness, of coming home to Ireland and of course getting lots of presents from Santa!”

The book is available now to buy now.

Meet Molly the Entrepreneur

“Molly’s Eggcellent Enterprise”

Welcome to our NEW enterprise training module created by Evelyn Mc Marketing.

Evelyn, helps people in business seek opportunities, create great innovative content and network with others to grow their business. Its that simple!

Evelyn has been involved with young enterprise and Transition year students for the past 7 years. Now she has joined her  skills in business to her experience in young enterprise to create a NEW training, to help others learn, how setting up a business is child’s play!

The Concept.

Each key word will form the building block of the exercise and learning, and the students understanding will come from the fact that it is delivered in a simple way that everyone can understand. The art work for Molly has been designed by 15 year old artist/entrepreneur Caitlin Lynch

A short extract from Molly’s training workshop……..

Meet Molly

Molly lives with her family on a little farm on the side of a mountain  outside a beautiful village. Molly keeps hens to feed her family

One week she had way too many eggs and decided to sell what she didn’t need.

She starts off by checking  out who else sells eggs in her area  (Market Research) how much they( her competitor)  sell them for and what she could do differently to attract people to buy her eggs. (Customers)

Before she did that she  sat down and  drew a little picture of a hen  (Logo) and called what she was doing  ” Molly’s Eggcellent Enterprise” (Brand)

The bank manager  said he loved to support people like Molly who set up in business on their own (Sole Trader) and were willing to work really hard to succeed  (ENTREPENEUR) . He also helped her make a list of all the things she would have to spend her money on in the business (Budget).

Too Far From Mammy

Jack, Darragh and Paul with Evelyn
Jack, Darragh and Paul with Evelyn

What a great week Evelyn had with the lads from @TooFarFromMammy twitter account this week.

Evelyn spotted on twitter, they were planning to escape their mammy’s in Cork and head off for a bit of pre College fun on the route of the Wild Atlantic  Way.

After a few tweets back and forward to let the lads know they needed The Crafty Kids Guide To Donegal and Its Wild Atlantic Way , for their Donegal part of the adventure.    (Written by the school children of Donegal and project managed by Evelyn)

crafty kids Guide To Donegal and its Wild Atlantic Way

Evelyn suggested they complete the journey to raise awareness for a charity, and thus it began.

Pieta House was chosen and the rest as they say is history.

This little adventure  proved that networking is networking whether on social media or in real time.

Quickest Fox Marketing  provided huge support with their twitter networking hours and spread the word on the great work the lads were doing.

EvelynMc Marketing Highland RadioHighland Radio was just one of the many radio stations that covered their journey from Cork to Donegal  and the lads said that Donegal Mammys looked after them really well. Especially Sinead in Errigal Hostel .

Well done everyone on getting behind these great lads and showing that connecting and networking really works whether you are raising awareness for a charity or your business.

Never miss the opportunity to connect and support others.
