Celebrating Donegal Love Story Wedding Memories

HOST A DONEGAL LOVE STORY IN YOUR VENUE…..

What is Donegal Love Story all about?

Donegal Love Story is a unique idea based on Evelyn’s own experience.

Having got married in The Central Hotel Donegal over 31 years ago I felt it would be a unique  idea to host an event where our wedding reception was held – relive the memories of another time . Display mementos and nostalgic items from wedding days of the the past not just for me but other brides and grooms who held their wedding reception in the hotel.

No event of its type had been held in the North West before and so the first Donegal Love Story event was held in The Central Hotel in June 2018 , 20  brides and grooms  with their families and friends returned for a night of nostalgia and celebrating the memories of the past.

Drinks reception on arrival and a buffet style dinner were served and dancing continued late into the night with the “bridal parties”.

An exhibition of wedding dresses, wedding albums and mementos from each couples special day were displayed and the atmosphere was truly  filled with romance and a night out for everyone to remember.

One of the grooms actually proposed again to his beautiful wife of many years.  Each couple got the opportunity to say a few words and talk about their special wedding day memories and received a personalised certificate to commemorate the event..

There were a few couples on the night who were over 50 years married and their families expressed gratitude that they could relive the happy memories with their parents, some of these stories and memories they had never been aware of  in the past.

Reveal The Teen Take On Brexit With Teen Shopping Campaign.

While the border counties fear a looming hard border and what damage Brexit can do to their local retail and social communities , Reveal The Teen have spoken and  to help increase revenue spend in the county Evelyn Mc Marketing and Letterkenny Chamber of Commerce have joined forces with the teen brand to create a shopping campaign based on  what  teens want!

The Reveal The Teen  project came about when Evelyn Mc Marketing  and her work placement students created a survey to find out the retail and social trends of  Transition Year students in Donegal.

Read the report here:

The survey  was carried out by Loreto Convent Transition Year students Joanna McMonagle and Claire McGettigan, and  Shannon Thackrah, a third year Digital Marketing student at IT Sligo.

The main lesson in the report for retailers was the need to educate and encourage teens to shop local with student discounts for second level, not just third, and to promote easy returns policies. It was revealed that only 36% of teenagers return clothes that don’t suit and online returns are seen to be a ‘hassle’.

The Reveal The Teen Shopping Campaign organised by Letterkenny Chamber of commerce and Evelyn Mc Marketing  plan to encourage teens to support  local retailers, while the retailers will act on some of the suggestions offered through the survey .

Micheal Murphy Sports   Evolve Menswear     Magees Pharmacy are just a few of the local retailers responding to what local teens want by offering a range of discounts and special offers to all teens who shop with them in the June event.   The campaign begins on Wednesday June 21st until Saturday 24th

For students Claire, Joanna and Shannon, their work with their mentor Evelyn and Reveal The Teen  initiative has given them  the opportunity to bring the voice of their peers to the table while creating a brand, promoting on social media platforms, launching to the business community and now seeing their project used as a local business initiative.

Not a bad few months work experience!

“We set out to give teenagers a voice and we can’t believe how much we have learned and that the retail community has shown such great interest.” said Joanna and Claire ,while Shannon says  “The work experience and creating of a brand has been invaluable in my course work and for my future. Getting the opportunity to bring a brand from conception to the public has been of fantastic value to me personally”.

The Reveal The Teen shopping campaign takes place in Letterkenny in conjunction with Letterkenny Chamber of Commerce and evelynmcmarketing.com from June 21st  until  June 25th.

Shannon’s Farewell to Work Placement with Evelyn Mc Marketing

Hello everyone, Shannon Thackrah- Evelyn’s 3rd year Digital Marketing work placement student from IT Sligo, here to tell you about my marketing work experience I had with Evelyn Mc Marketing.

Unfortunately my time with Evelyn has come to a close- where did the time go?! I was on work placement with Evelyn from the end of January until now and honestly the time flew by. I am amazed at how much we managed to achieve together during my marketing placement time and how beneficial this work placement has been to me.

Over the course of my work placement I learned new skills, put my existing skills into practise in real life situations and also was able to develop personal skills such as networking and becoming more self-confident in myself and my abilities as a marketer.

One thing I loved about my placement with Evelyn was how energetic she was and how infectious her enthusiasm, about every project is. We would come up with an idea and she would already be so excited that it was hard not to also be excited and looking forward to carrying the project out.

Work placement with Evelyn was also great for networking. I got to go to so many events and meet so many wonderful and inspiring business and marketing people and talk to them about their industry and marketing. I really loved going to the Donegal Women In Business events too as there was such a wonderful positive and encouraging atmosphere and everyone was so interesting to talk to.

Reveal The Teen Launch

One of the biggest accomplishments of my work placement was definitely the Reveal The Teen project which I was involved in with Evelyn’s two other work experience students; Claire and Joanna. Reveal the Teen was such an interesting and exciting project to be a part of and I got to be involved in so many different methods of market research and marketing. Through Reveal the Teen, I achieved the following;

  • Created a brand and unique hashtag #RevealtheTeen
  • Created Social Media content
  • Designed logo’s and social media branding
  • Survey market research
  • Held a focus group with teenagers from Donegal
  • Correlated the data and results into meaningful information
  • Designed infographics to display the information in a visual way
  • Wrote a report on the Reveal The Teen findings
  • Press Release for the project
  • Presented the findings of the project in a PowerPoint presentation in the Letterkenny Chamber of Commerce

Phew! What a great project to have been a part of and it feels amazing to think we achieved so much in such little amount of time.

Also as part of my work placement I was able to build upon my graphic design and Photoshop skills. These were crucial in most stages of my placement but especially when designing content for some clients and especially the Reveal The Teen project. Another area I was able to build upon was my web design and general website knowledge and skills. Both of those areas were areas that prior to the placement I felt were not very developed but now after having built upon those skills I feel wholly confident that I am capable in those areas now!

It was also great to develop my social and blog content creation skills as I was able to suggest social media post ideas and was able to write a few blog posts for Evelyn’s site (such as Reveal the Teen and Top 5 Free Digital Marketing Tools) which I really enjoyed doing.

Evelyn is also an incredibly warm, bubbly and friendly person. I felt so welcomed and never felt stupid asking for Evelyn to explain anything I did not understand. I highly recommend any third level marketing or business students to look for placement with Evelyn, not only will you gain great marketing and public relations experience in a multitude of areas and meet great business people at networking events but you will also have lots of fun and enjoy it!
